What is International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day is a day to honor the contributions of women in every domain including economics, business, academia, politics, philanthropy and culture. Today, we see many women in the world holding many responsibilities – large or small in their abilities in all aspects of their lives. It is no easy feat, given the nature limitation of strength but, women generally have a huge determination and discipline for success and achievement in things they want to achieve.
Let’s dive back briefly the history of women’s statures change.
More than 100 years ago, women did not have the right to work, the right to employment, the right to equal pay, the right to vote, etc. Women did not have all these rights all over the world, the situation was such that women did not work anywhere. Apart from just at home. Employment rights began to be found after some time. When women started protesting there were many restrictions even after getting employment.
The biggest restriction was that where men would get salaries for a job, women were given half or even smaller number of salaries for the same work. Women were not considered equal to men. They did not even have the right to ancestral property. Domestic violence was very frequent with women. There was also sexual violence with women. To get rid of all this, many women started protesting for equal rights as men. They gave up their lives to get these rights.
Dawn of new hopes and miracles
International Women’s Day has been on the calendar for 110 years, dating back to 1911 when it was March 19th and recognized in Switzerland, Denmark, Germany and Austria. The campaigns against WWI inspired women in countries across Europe to recognize the day as well. The observance of International Women’s Day moved to March 8th in 1913. The U.N. officially began celebrating International Women’s Day in 1975.
The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. It is one of the most important days of the year to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about women’s equality, lobby for accelerated gender parity and fundraise for female-focused charities.
Today’s women have earned our admirations and tributes for their independence gained and the many great successes and contributions they achieved over the years, for families; organizations; societies and countries. They are like the source of sun, giving light energy and creating miracles that are so beautiful and influences all corners of world where women are!
